1. Scratch Resistance of Coating
The surface corrosion of coated sheets often occurs at scratches. Scratches are inevitable, especially during processing. If the coated sheet possesses strong scratch-resistant properties, it can greatly reduce the likelihood of damage, thereby extending its lifespan. Tests indicate that ZAM sheets outperform others; they exhibit scratch resistance under loads more than 1.5 times that of galvanized-5% aluminum and over three times that of galvanized and zinc-aluminum sheets. This superiority stems from the higher hardness of their coating.
2. Weldability
Compared to hot-rolled and cold-rolled sheets, ZAM plates exhibit slightly inferior weldability. However, with proper techniques, they can still be welded effectively, maintaining strength and functionality. For welding areas, repair with Zn-Al type coatings can achieve results similar to the original coating.
3. Paintability
ZAM’s paintability resembles that of galvanized-5% aluminum and zinc-aluminum-silicon coatings. It can undergo painting, further enhancing both appearance and durability.
4. Irreplaceability
There are specific scenarios where zinc-aluminum-magnesium is irreplaceable by other products:
(1) In outdoor applications requiring thick specifications and robust surface coatings, such as highway guardrails, which previously relied on bulk galvanization. With the advent of zinc-aluminum-magnesium, continuous hot-dip galvanization has become feasible. Products like solar equipment supports and bridge components benefit from this advancement.
(2) In regions like Europe, where road salt is spread, using other coatings for vehicle underbodies leads to rapid corrosion. Zinc-aluminum-magnesium plates are essential, especially for seaside villas and similar structures.
(3) In specialized environments requiring acid resistance, such as farm poultry houses and feeding troughs, zinc-aluminum-magnesium plates must be used due to the corrosive nature of poultry waste.
